I work for a staffing agency and up until recently, enjoyed it. In my 5 months in the industry I was able to get 4 people extremely better paying jobs in their field of engineering. Recently I was promoted to an “account manager”. Now I try to “sell” our services to firms by presenting candidates we are currently working with who are looking for new opportunities. The only problem is, none of these candidates exist. My boss and President have both repetitively told me to use fake candidates. Candidates with perfect resumes and qualifications. As soon as the new client signs our contract, I’m supposed to say the candidate is no longer interested.
They think they have come up with some new type of sales technique, when in reality it’s the same ole bait and switch that has been used for hundreds of years.
Yesterday I signed a new client. His first question is can I now see the resume for the candidate you sent over… Im just supposed to wait 2 days and respond they aren’t interested.
I have an interview for another company tomorrow because morally, I can’t do this shit.
I’ve decided in my free time and some work time, I will instead be applying to my current company’s job openings with fake perfect qualifications. Every time they reach out, I’m just not going to be interested anymore.
