I am a student working at a convenience store to get by. I just transferred to move. She knows I'm a student and that this isn't a forever gig for me. I gave my new boss a three week heads up that I want off Saturday or Sunday Halloween weekend. . I am not set in stone and am flexible. This is a corporate store and I have seen this manager and other managers get all pissy when they have to step up to work another 8 hours because someone called out last minute.
But when we try to give them a heads up they just deny it? Don't be surprised when people choose to call out when you refuse to work around them when they tell you their availability. Expect minimum effort for minimum wages. None of us are relying on the chump change they hand to us to survive. We couldn't do it with this job if we tried. The monthly salary is a couple hundred less than the average rent for a singles apartment in the area.
I'm so sick of hearing from this manager and the others I've had moaning about lazy workers when the reality is we just aren't willing to sacrifice our entire lives outside of work to a job that isn't even a livelihood.
