Yes this is real, I had an boss once who decided we should do a pizza party. This particular boss legitimately had no control over wage increases (union shop) so decided a pizza party on the company dime was a nice way to say thanks for coming in and working hard.
Our site had roughly a dozen employees and when the time came for the party she went to everyone and asked what their favorite pizza was. A few hours later 25 pizzas showed up, one of each person’s favorite and then randoms like cheese, pepperoni, etc.
The company got a huge bill for pizza and we all were fat and happy at the end of the day. That was one time where a pizza party was a good thing
