is it legal for my boss to cut my hours and not notify me

i normally work 40+ hours a week however next week i’m only scheduled 20. i’m lowkey struggling not to have a panic attack at work right now because i don’t know how i’m gonna be able to afford rent with that. like is that even allowed????
