So I’m a nurse and routinely pick up doubles. 3p to 7a sometimes multiple days in a row when there are shortages. There’s no overlap in shifts at this facility. You’re either 7-3, 3-11, or 11-7. So giving report sometimes takes 15 minutes or so and sometimes longer if there’s an issue. Overtime is anything over 80 hours in 2 weeks, not 40 hours in 1 week (but you can get overtime pay for working more than 8 hours in 1 day, hence why I do doubles and why the full time people take so long to give report because they get overtime after the 8 hours.) even 15 minutes a day adds up.
The problem arises that I’m not being paid during my report time while still clocked in as my paychecks only show whole values. If I punch in at 3p and not out until 7:30a the next day, my paycheck only shows 16 hours not 16.5.
I was told by management it is my responsibility to be out of the facility on time and that paying me for over 16 hours breaks labor laws so they cannot legally pay me even though I am still working because then they are admitting fault for breaking said law. Then don’t allow me to work 3 16 hour shifts in a row?? Is there anything I can do? Some kind of reporting board that would audit mine and my coworkers checks for back pay? Even if I try to get out on time the morning staff are routinely late. I’m helping THEM during the shortage and they’re not paying me. I’ve started to come at 4p sometimes as a cushion but then it just puts me an hour behind when I come in or they tell me they really need me at 3 because that’s when day shift leaves and they can’t stay over and the patients need me.
I’m in Pennsylvania if that matters.
Just heartbroken because those 15 minutes and half hours probably add up to a lot of money I’ve worked for free. My old job let me work 18 hour shifts and I was always paid for those.
