So last week we were foretold this next weekend (this saturday coming) that they need people in to do overtime to pick 5000 cases of one of our few main contracts to support a new warehouse opening by the client down near london, In the meeting I was the one to ask “what rate are we going to be paid?” as this company is whack.
basic rate is £10.85 an hour, overtime counts as “p1” which is like 1.07x (£11.60), it's not even time and a half (1.5x) which i consider standard everywhere else i have worked, they have offered us “p2” before which comes out to £13.85 an hour, yesterday the manager came up to me and told me “oh the rate will be p1, can i count on you coming in for 8 hours on saturday and sunday?”.
I simply smiled at him and said “Not for that rate I won't”, I'm not the only one either, four of the other FLT drivers have said no.
I expect the manager to be pulling me into his office today to try and persuade me to waste my finite time for a spit in the rate rate of pay, I told the other guys to turn down the overtime as they are a client centric business, neither they nor the client give a fuck about us, and for overtime they make the clients pay for it, we know they charge a premium for each head who turns up and they've incentivised weekend overtime pay before by giving us £50 bonus on top of “P2” pay for 6 hours on a saturday before yet this time there is no incentive at all, and for 1.07x what i normally make on a saturday it's sickening, like you don't value my time why the fuck would i come in on my only two days off to rest and recover, do what i need to do, and try and socialise with people whom i havent been able to socialise with all week due to my shitty shift hours?
4 weeks ago they told us they made £190,000 across the 3 sister sites in town, in a month, while they only support around 180 -200 staff members, yet none of us guys on the ground got any bonuses?
