Is it legal for a company to ask an employee to sign an NDA/Non-Compete/Confidentiality Agreement after the employee has started working?

As the title states, current employer sent me an email stating that I have either an outdated agreement, or don't have one whatsoever. I'm assuming this was sent to more than one employee, as it does not reference me by name. The email makes no suggestion that I'm required to sign, but heavily implies that they would prefer I do so. My question is, am I obligated to sign this document if I'm already employed and have worked here for more than 3 years? I doubt I do, but want to check in with this sub as I've seen some pretty solid advice provided to folks in the past. If I do not sign, what sort of legal recourse could I potentially have if I'm terminated for not agreeing to sign?
