Labour Market Shortages – Desperately Looking for Workers, Hey?

This is a bit of a funny rant that I have to share… I'm very experienced in my field of work (baking). The place I'm at now, while filled with mostly good people, isn't ideal. Mostly because most of these people are woefully incompetent at their jobs and would rather slog through the day with endless issues than consider what I, who has lots of outside experience and technical training, has to say. Their reasoning is usually “Well I've been here for 10+ years!” Seniority isn't a substitute for talent. You can work doing the same thing for 30 years and still suck at it and have no talent or knowledge. You just go through the motions and do the bare minimum. Very rarely do I get the chance to run things as I see fit, and when I do, the place I work at has zero issues for the…

Seniority isn't a substitute for talent. You can work doing the same thing for 30 years and still suck at it and have no talent or knowledge. You just go through the motions and do the bare minimum.

Very rarely do I get the chance to run things as I see fit, and when I do, the place I work at has zero issues for the entire shift I'm there managing it.

Anywho, that isn't the rant.

I'm bored and want to pick up a second job. I've got the time for it. In my field of work, there's always a perpetual shortage of workers.

I've applied at about a dozen places now with the URGENTLY HIRING tag. One place responded, said they loved my work and wanted to see more, then they ghosted me when I listed when I was available to meet up. The others just instantly deny my application and would rather have their ad URGENTLY HIRING up for literal months.

I know it isn't a problem with my resume because I've had some professional work done to touch it up and look pretty. I've had a few compliments on it, even. Plus, I also include a 'portfolio' of my work, a summary of what I know and can do (basically a general cover letter), and the whole nine yards. The place I work at now loved the amount of effort I put into my application and resume.

So I think, maybe something lower and more mundane on the totem pole.

Dishwasher? Nope.
Prep cook? Nope.
Janitor? Nope.
Laborer? Nope.
Forklift operator? Nope.

Is it me? Am I crazy or something? Am I at that point in my life where I have too much experience (and certifications) to do low end work, and not enough to do anything higher end? I'm literally just bored and want more money and have lots of time to kill.

Sheesh.

But it's all entirely a problem with the WORKERS now, isn't it? Nobody wants to apply!
