So I’m in a good position to get promoted to a manager role.
Currently I’m in a union and with standby on-call pay and OT, I make a very solid 6 figure salary.
The manager position removes me from the union and eventually pays me about 25K over my current base salary. I say eventually, as they use a step-up salary structure annually until you reach the top tier.
When I do the math I’m probably only getting MAYBE 5K more but I’m losing union benefits which as a person over 40 means job security. I’m adding more responsibilities and stress. I’m also no longer able to be part of the on-call process and claim OT.
The pros is a better job title which may help me in the long run. But maybe not.
I’m curious to read your opinions and thoughts on this. I feel like staying where I am is the safe bet, but I’m growing tired of what I’m doing and quite honestly, a part of me wants my potential replacement to do the work that I’ve been doing for the past 5 years.
Thanks
