I’m a mature equipment operator that struggled in school. A Gen Xer with dyslexia, and ADD. I found that habitat restoration and wildland firefighting are passions of mine long ago, and give me intense focus while working, and training was easy. My passion and purpose moved me forward in my career, but over the years my low salary was crushing me. I began looking for work elsewhere, and was surprised at the offers. Life changing. I accepted the one I thought would be the best fit, and turned in my resignation. Within minutes I received a call asking what it would take to keep me on. I have to say, reading the stories on here, made me question myself and what I feel is right and wrong. I was beginning to get institutionalized. We are all valuable. We are what make up healthy communities. We are the the workers! Be proud, and quit if you aren’t being treated fairly. Go out on a limb and see what’s out there. I have upmost confidence in you, Millennials and Gen Z. Thanks for the kick in the rear.
