PTO for a funeral at a later date

My grandmother passed away, I live across the country and my family is spread out. We have decided to wait until December to have a celebration of life instead of having a funeral right now, and have it around Christmas when most family will be in town. I didn’t plan to travel home for Christmas but I would like to be at my grandma’s celebration of life. I asked my manager for the time off to be able to travel home, which would be 12/22/, 12/23, and 12/26. I offered to even take it unpaid and from my sick time, which canal also be used as bereavement. He basically accused me of lying “Funerals don’t happen two months after someone died” and is basically saying I’m just trying to get around the holiday PTO policy. My company offers 1 paid bereavement day but I can’t use it to attend a funeral ay a later date. This is all happening over zoom messages (fully remote) and maybe I’m just misreading the tone here.
