To preface this, I’m of a minority class. Not going to specify which one because mentally I can’t handle getting bullied more about my existence. I just started a new job a month ago, and on top of having a manager be blatantly and openly discriminatory towards me specifically, with 3 witnesses, one of which was her own manager… here is the list of things that have happened. I’m feeling so fed up but I really need the money and can’t decide if I should just leave.
- haven’t gotten a uniform after 1 month and yet was disciplined for not wearing my uniform?
- asked about reimbursement if I bought my own and was told they’d get back to me and they never did
- had an upper manager tell me I was “pissing him off” because he asked me to stay back on my shift and I originally told him I could do more than what I wound up doing (8 additional hrs vs 4)
- several employees are just totally miserable and drag me down every time I go into work
- being given attitude by coworkers and them demanding things of me that I was told the opposite to do
- no communication…. even on our shift, I’ve had a manager leave post without a radio while something urgent was happening and she just didnt answer. Left me there to handle it with no help
- constantly facing subtle discrimination and being asked super uncomfortable questions about my minority status
- everyone talks badly about each other behind their backs, including the big boss about employees. He’s literally talked shit about employees almost daily to me and I guarantee he probably talks about me too
- the client company we’re contracted through has said they love me and I’m one of the best employees but then I’m having my own manager discipline me for minor mistakes
- big boss shamed me for complaining about working so much (I was hired part time and have been working 48+hr weeks), saying he has it worse because he doesn’t get a day off
- concerning the discrimination, first off the big boss said he’d talk to her a 3rd time about it and I said I’d like to be present to witness the conversation and he told me “that’s going to be a problem. You have to be professional, after all”. Then he told me “you just have to make up” with the manager and was going to make me have a 1×1 meeting with her? and I refused and said I wouldn’t speak to her without HR present and he kept challenging me on it
- all of this is starting to make me symptomatic again with a chronic condition that disabled me last year
Do you guys think I should stick it out here at least until I find a new job? I feel so fed up, last night I walked out early (made sure I had coverage) because of how a coworker was treating me and I was forced to work with the manager who’s been openly discriminating towards me, and I got a final write up for it.
