Welcoming more immigrants to address the labour shortage is neglecting the root of the problem

I live in Canada and I’m tired of seeing headlines about addressing labour shortages through more immigration. Median income in Canada is 40k and a the average cost of rent for a 1 bedroom across all of the major cities is reaching $2000/mo. What are they gonna do with more immigrants? Bring them here to work on $14/hr so a family of 6 can live in a tiny shack? It’s almost as if the system is blaming us because we don’t want to settle for inadequate living standards. The working class is being squeezed to death
