Took out hours from my saved vacation time to leave work early and go to interview somewhere that advertised itself as being a ” nature / environmental studies curriculum based learning center” for children
Arrived 15 minutes early and when I get into the room the first thing I'm told is ” so the position has been filled, would you like to continue with the interview anyway though?”
” No”
AND THEN SHE KEPT TALKING and telling me about the onboarding process ( 6 months where you start off in a custodian position and work your way up until you get to the actual position you originally applied for) and began introducing me to the rest of the staff and students. I thought she was walking me out the door but she told me to leave my bag in her office and then WALKED ME INTO A CLASSROOM MID SESSION AND LEFT and the doors only open with a key fob. Finally the actual teacher was able to break away from the kids long enough to talk to me and I just leveled with her and said I was sorry that I had interrupted her activity but I thought I was on my way out the door.
I asked ” the nature thing, that doesn't really go much farther than all the potted plants in the hallway, does it?”( My background is in environmental education) BECAUSE SOME OF THE PLANTS WERE FUCKING TOXIC. Apparently the director just got a ton of plants at Lowes at random and put them all over the school as a way to feed into their “green learning”. I saw dumbcane plants lined up in several stairwells.
I grabbed my bag and tried to leave again but I had to wait for someone with a fob to buzz me outside. The director tried stopping me saying ” oh, I was just about to come get you to talk about our onboarding process so you'll know what to expect” but I just blurbed something about ” no I need to go right now” and ran out.
Wtf
Like what the actual fuck was that? They had reached out to me about the position too! It was planned over a week ago. She literally told me the position was available, asked me if I was still interested in continuing the interview and I told her no and SHE LEFT ME IN A ROOM WITH STUDENTS AND THEN TRIED TO STOP ME FROM LEAVING
I just feel the need to add that there were ” peanut free school” signs posted everywhere around the toxic house plants. I guess they're picking their poisons, literally.
