I've been working in different areas in Canada for a while, and I noticed something: older generations seem to only work half their shifts (sometimes more, sometimes less) and keep chit-chatting between themselves, even chat on their phone, while younger people who just got in are expected to never leave their computer not even to go to the bathroom. The same people I've heard complain that the younger folks don't want to work, and are lazy, I've seen go to work mostly to socialize and think that it's what we actually do as well.
This is not a generalization per say, I've seen older people be way more productive too, but more often than not, it's what I described. But it's so frustrating. I try to ignore it but it feeds my “anti-work” feeling more than anything else right now. I'm burning myself to the point of wanting to just lay down and stare at the ceiling when I get home, and then I see that all day.
Anyone else? Or is it maybe specific to my area?
