I'll try to keep it short.
I was promoted a while back and it was big for me. I went from being an entry level tech worker and placed right into a mid level tech job in cybersecurity in a large org. I am wrapping up my final semester. They promoted me knowing I didn't have a ton of experience and certifications or my degree yet. The idea was that I showed a lot of potential and would take this opportunity to learn and maybe skip the monotonous bs of the lower level IT jobs. However, my pay is about 40% of the industry average in my region for my position.
I understood the reasoning but I believe I have been overworked and have even had to take on a bunch of tasks from the support techs to pick up the slack. Now I am getting placed on on call evenings and weekends even though it was never in the negotiations or job description and that is on top of working 7AM-5PM M-F. It's taking significant time away from my education.
To add onto that, the executives (so far the CEO, CFO, president, and vp) have started personally calling me at all hours of the night and weekends for non emergency issues and people are getting hostile with me since I think I am getting scapegoated by the lower level techs (I have evidence of emails where they blame me for incidents that I wasn't a part of).
I have gone to my immediate supervisor and director about this and they are on my side. but I told them I will be turning my phone off after work and on the weekends and will not be taking calls anymore until we can discuss these things further. I want to ask for more money if I am going to take more time away from my studies. but I worry they will think I am ridiculous because of my lack of education or ungrateful of the opportunity.
Any insight?
