My retail job provides free service that you would otherwise have to go to a dealership or shop to get done.

If you’ve ever worked at a parts store like napa, o’reillys, autozone, advance auto parts, etc. you understand my pain. What the fuck qualifies a retail worker to go and change a car battery? Especially considering that newer vehicles are designed to make every process difficult so you have to take it to the dealer for maintenance. Bmw, Volkswagen, and a few other brands require the new battery to be registered to the vehicles computer, otherwise the car will not start. Initially, dealerships and shops were the only people who could change a battery like this because you need the technology to do so. What is their solution you ask? To give us a little plug in that allows us to do all of this in the parking lot and makes the process even longer. Then there’s customers who have a shit ton of shoddy wiring jobs under the hood,…

Then there’s customers who have a shit ton of shoddy wiring jobs under the hood, and we’re supposed to change the battery when there’s five different wires hooked up to one terminal? The minute you work on a piece of junk you have to own it.

My last shift, I replaced BOTH batteries in a lifted diesel truck. I am 5’2 standing on a STEP STOOL to change fucking batteries.
I’ve been told that I needed to change a battery in the rain before.
All while getting zero commission, and no tips (at least where I work). ANYWHERE ELSE YOU GO requires a labor fee. I’m tired of being a battery bitch.

Edit: broke up the chunk of ranting into paragraphs lol
