Why does no one respect the lunch hour?

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who feels this way at my job, but my lunch hour is very sacred to me. I’m lucky enough to live only minutes away from home so I usually just go home every day, and I really need that hour of peace in my own space to feel sane and get through the rest of the day. My coworkers constantly want to spend lunch together, and seem to think it’s weird that I leave every day. Our company also often hosts events at lunch like free yoga classes or an ice cream happy hour or food trucks. When I don’t attend those things people really seem to be bothered. Why would I stay at work when I have one free hour to myself? How come respecting the lunch hour isn’t more of an unspoken rule?
