I’m a grocery store cashier in the US and i spend several hours a day standing. Sometimes its so busy that I dont get to stop moving my arms for 2-3 hours.
I start getting dehydrated pretty quickly.
Yesterday I was carrying a bottle of water to my register and my manager told me “no drinks at the register.” (Despite it being a CLOSEABLE BOTTLE of WATER, and having plenty of space to set it where it wont spill on anything important.)
I’m pretty much not allowed to drink at all outside of my singular 15 min break. There’s no way I can walk across the floor, walk up 2 flights of stairs, grab my drink from the fridge, have a sip, and walk all the way back quickly enough without pissing SOMEONE off.
I’m pretty sure its not a store/company policy either because some managers are ok with it, and others suck.
I don’t know if I’m just whining or if this really is illegal. It feels illegal.
