Antiwork

Finally decided for real to leave the job I hate.

I’ve been here for over 11 years, 30 years old. This place has metaphorically beaten the shit out of me for years. I’ve seen a gaggle of people paid as much as me get by on work that would not be accepted from me. I’ve clung to the outdated notion that I’m better than others because I sacrifice my well being for the job, and that these people are my friends and leaving would be selfish/wrong. Today a moment of weakness/poor judgement of mine (gave a truly shitty attitude to a request, admittedly. Nothing offensive but was not helpful either), made way for someone I thought was a friend to dismiss me, threaten my job, and hang up on me. I wasn’t given the benefit of the doubt when I bloody well deserved it. I went and fulfilled the request regardless of their assertion that they would simply do everything…

I went and fulfilled the request regardless of their assertion that they would simply do everything themselves since I couldn’t be bothered to help (paraphrasing), but I am done. 10000% done. It will take a bit of time and work to detach myself, but the wheels are turning and I finally know for real that these people are not friends. They don’t need me, let alone treat me nearly well enough. 11 years and I barely break 50k and none of the “perks” are worth it anymore. Bye.
