Background: I work for county government. Job was great until today.
Problem: I cannot afford Child Care After I give birth. I asked my boss if I could do remote work for 1yr to 1.5yr Until they are old enough that a family member would be able to take care of them. I figured this was no problem since 30 of the 40 people in our department (including them and other managers) are nearly 100% or are 100% remote.
But I get blow back!?!? “I have to talk to HR because of your job duties” (You mean checking the mail?! There are 10 other people that could be 'trained' to do it. Everything else I can already do remote.). “I have to talk to people.” God forbid that everyone in the department gets equal treatment when it comes to this!
WHY does no one else have to pay $400 a week for child care or have to use gas to get to work or have to go out in the snow and ice?!?
They will lose me. I will find another job that is remote. I am done letting these people be hypocrites!
