New Company Bonus Program

I am new to the management side, but it was announced at the beginning of the year that the executives created a new bonus program. We get a large bonus every 4 months and the ones that hit all our goals for the year are going to go on a team all paid “tropical vacation”. What irritated me was that they gave us managers the option to share the money with our team or not. I guess that has always been the policy. In all the time I've worked for this company, I have never heard of a manager sharing their bonus. Is this NORMAL? Why is it an option and why don't they just give our workers bonuses too? I responded that if my team is happy, it should be easier for me to reach my goals and actually qualify for the bonus…no other manager seemed to share my outlook.

That is why we need groups like this.
