I posted earlier asking on tips about how to exploit my boss' racist remarks for higher pay, ya'll weren't really helpful but I went ahead and decided to shoot my shot.
I messaged the manager earlier to invite him out to have “Manly Brunch,” he laughed and accepted my invitation. I took him out to a Mexican restaurant and ordered two Tempaches. For those of you who don't know, tempache is fermented pineapple juice, but this restaurant supposedly says it doesn't contain alcohol but I swear to God I feel woozy after two 20oz drinks. So anyways, we had those drinks first, imma go ahead and note that my manager is native, because this is probably what ended up happening. Anyways, my manager went through 2 of those 20oz drinks QUICK. Like before i was done with my first one, he was already a lil bit into his second drink. Anyways, we ordered some tortas, and kept talking about how I deserve a livable wage. He was kinda looking at me like look at this mf'r asking for $16/h. But idk…after that second drink he finished I feel like I broke through a wall and on God, I'd have to blame the drink on this one. LMAOOO! So anyways, I discussed that if the owner, our boss, was gonna be speaking to me like this then I should DEFINITELY be paid properly. So my manager is lowkey leaning onto the table, puts his fingers (index and thumb) and kinda raised his chin. That's when I knew I mastered my matrix. I then touched on how we both graduated from the same high school and how I graduated with his sister, and I feel like that was the push/slip I needed to grease me into quite possibly being the highest paid budtender in Oklahoma. Anyways, he calls up our general manager, says he needs yada yada, paid at $16.75. You hear a “WHAT?!” My manager says “Yeh.” Then you hear “Okay!” And he hangs up. We then went on to start talking shit about some of our high school teachers that we both had. We finished up, I picked up the tab and went home to change into my uniform before work.
I'm posting this to show you guys that by using the right words and using the matrix around you to your advantage, you too, can slide your way into better pay. Use the matrix wisely. Also, I feel like we come up with too many scenarios in our head, because the way the manager just said what he said and we just got a “Okay!” That just made me realize we stress too much over minuscule things.
