Unequal treatment?

Hi, So I started at a job and mentioned for remote work I didn't need a second screen I would buy my own as a I enjoy photography and videpgraphy as a hobbie and freelance (baring in mind it's mostly working with friends and family as when for their work actors dancers models ect) My work raised this with HR asking how much I make from this and who I am working with. Can they ask this? They said it can have financial implications on them and that my role with them should come first which it does I do this as something I enjoy always will do regardless of whatever job I have and have done so for years. Hi,

So I started at a job and mentioned for remote work I didn't need a second screen I would buy my own as a I enjoy photography and videpgraphy as a hobbie and freelance (baring in mind it's mostly working with friends and family as when for their work actors dancers models ect)

My work raised this with HR asking how much I make from this and who I am working with. Can they ask this? They said it can have financial implications on them and that my role with them should come first which it does I do this as something I enjoy always will do regardless of whatever job I have and have done so for years.

Anyway we had a senior role filled recently who obviously earns more than myself due to the position and experience required. When searching this new starter online saw they are a founder of their own online business which still is functioning so they obviously still make an income on this.

I don't know if this same conversation has been raised with them but I feel unlikely has or will as they hired them just recently.

I feel like my grilling and basically being told I can't do side projects which is in my own time is not going to also be conversed to this same person and their online business which appears much more profitable than what I do in my spare time.

Please can someone advise? I feel like this is unfair treatment but also doubt I can do much. I did pet sitting one weekend do I have to declare I made some money doing that as well? It all sounds petty to me and not very fair that I was discouraged but the same will not be done for this new starter.

Thoughts?
