Americans – what’s your work holiday policy like?

Americans – what’s your work policy for holidays? I posted on another sub and thought I would ask here too. No other job has been like this and I’m wanting to see if I was just super lucky before. We are not open on holidays. But we also don’t get paid for them. We have to use our own PTO. But we also CANNOT take it unpaid. Like we do not have the option to work, we can’t just be off and not get paid, and if we don’t have enough pto we have to make up the hours throughout the rest of the week.

This goes for all holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, July 4th.
I can understand some companies just don’t give their employees holiday pay. But to not even let you take it unpaid while not allowing you to work?

We don’t get a certain amount of pto given ahead of time each year we earn around 6-7 hours a pay period.
It’s for sick time, appts, holidays, we had to use it while the hurricane was hitting. The week after we were closed and they did pay us at least.
For holidays we are closed and do not have the option to work at all.
We cannot take it unpaid either. So if we don’t have enough pto to cover the holiday we have to work 10 hour days the rest of the week.

Has anyone else experienced this?
