Thought this would be a good place to share this.
So starting 5ish years ago, had issues with school staff and left. A mate of my dads is looking for an apprentice locksmith and after doing a bit of research I jump in headfirst. Fast forward 4 years, I have finished all my unit standards to be qualified, skilled up in company time and inn my own to further my career, helped pick up big contracts for the local hospital among other things. Usually 50-60 weeks essentially working as the senior locksmith, doing paperwork and all the look to keep the business flowing. Had some health issues which took me out of work for a little.
Boss hires a new guy with no experience, gives him my van that we just finished setting up specifically for me. I end up doing my work. Most of his, and half the bosses because he wants to spend time with his family or just not work.
After a week of installing at a site we finally finish the massive job, boss massively under quoted. The rep from the lock company basically shafted him.
We find out there company would have quoted 2 weeks for the job we learned how to do and did in a week. Boss is mad we took too long.
Now right after we finish on the Friday boss knows I have somewhere to be. Calls me after hours after I have left. Tells me I wont be getting a call out fee, just the extra time. i try to politely decline to no avail. he tells me he is 'sick of my shit'
i hang up. go home and clear the work phone, put my uniform in the van, and send an email to the boss asking for a copy of my contract as after 4 years i feel its due for an update.
i get an email back saying
'if you want to resign, do it, ot can be effective immediately. i insist i just need a copy of my contract (which when i was young and naive i dont think i ever got)
fast forward a couple hours and i get sent a contract. a digital copy with obvious changes and edits. i use my leftover sick days while looking for a new job. found a great company that gave me a good pay rise right off the bat. send my effective immediately resignation and drop of the vehicle etc.
Find out later that within a week, the rest of his staff left, as well as all his wife’s staff left as our businesses shared a building. Had to replace 12 staff across 2 small business asap.
Karma!
