Promotion Question

Hello all, please remove this post if not allowed. I will try to be brief and concise. I work for a contracted shipping company as a forklift driver, part of the weekend crew. We are free to come in and work during the week with the “main” company if we want, but the only days that are required and count towards attendance are Saturdays and Sundays. I have worked here for about 10 months, getting close to 11 and my first year. Recently our team lead put in his two weeks notice and left the company/position.

An offer for promotion was extended to all of us, and as far as I am aware only myself and one other person put our names in as candidates.

1 week ago I was informed that I did not receive the promotion, and that the other candidate had received it. They are not reliable, has 5 unexcused absences and 1 no call/no show (our cutoff is 7 and 3, respectively) in the ~6 months they have worked here, and the quality of work is… Not the greatest. The very first official day of their promotion they were not in that day. For reference I have only missed 4 total days (0 no call no shows) in the close to a year that I have worked here.

Anyways, I spoke with my supervisor about it and he “wasn't supposed to tell me” that this other candidate had received the promotion only due to the fact that they have referred other people to this job, and had also given the ops manager (who had the promotion decision power) an ultimatum that they either receive a promotion or a raise, or they would quit.

My question is simply if there is anything that could be done? Do I have any course for a complaint, or anything of the sort? I know I sound angry (and I am) but it just feels like an entire year of reliability and dedication has been completely skimmed over. I have been seriously considering either quitting or converting over to the main company since that is a possibility.

Apologies for this being so long and again please remove if not allowed. TIA for any answers I may receive
