New Hire makes more than me for the same job

I don’t know if this is the right place to post this, but I have been working a part time job since June while I go through emt school. My company has been really struggling to retain new hires and so we have been short staffed for a few months now which has led to an increase in my daily work load. I picked up extra hours to cover the load, I’ve covered shifts, and I never call in sick. I get paid 16/hr. I don’t mind the work and my boss keeps my hours very flexible around my busy schedule, but today we were training a new hire and he was talking about how he was excited to start this job and that he was happy to be making 17/hr. Not sure what I should do so any feedback would be great.
