I'm starting a new job soon, have learned many a way to save my ass as an employee thanks to this sub. My last job was an anti-work nightmare and after quitting I realized how much compensation I shorted myself by not tracking things I didn't know needed to be tracked. Did you know in Canada you can claim $2/day for every day worked from home? I didn't. I want to go into this new role as prepared as possible.
I've started a list of things for me to track/record better this time around. If anyone has anything they think I'm missing here, please let me know.
-
Daily work hours WITH DETAILS like, I started work at 8 but actually had to pack and load gear at 7:45, and that time should be paid for.
-
A journal with what I did that day. The tasks vary daily, and it feels like a written dairy can help with the “why did you have to work extra on that random day 3 weeks ago” type questions from the boss.
-
Gas receipts and mileage tacker.
-
A list of personal supplies/gear I've used for the company (I've used my own tools and things to fix gear)
-
Receipts for literally everything.
