I consider myself lucky to work for a company I love, and I still hate our benefits. Insurance is expensive and not great. 401k plans are little more than an attempt by corporate america to force americans who can’t afford to play the stock market to still give a shit about it. I’m literally working full time in one of the most affordable cities in the country, no student debt, and I can’t pay my bills. I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not the best with saving money. But even the people I know who have ALWAYS been thrifty spenders are struggling now. Why are my “benefits” costing me over a quarter of my paycheck each month? I just don’t understand how you’re supposed to include benefits in total compensation when you’re still paying for them.
