Is the office culture really bad in USA

I work in Canada and none of my colleagues work OT. Usually once you complete your 8 hour shift and you are gone. Only exception I've seen is our VP and CFO who are always working late hours. My field is Accounting/Finance. I've been contemplating to move to USA. Mainly because of cheaper housing and better weather and more importantly I want a change. We've been struggling to keep up with the mortgage and expenses. The only thing is holding me back is the work culture. I always hear how Americans always working, they have no concept of family time. You know those stereotypes. Does it matter what state you live in? I kind of like Houston/Dallas due to weather and housing. Accounting in healthcare would be something I would look at in Texas.
