Anyone else’s job cutting their hours right before the holidays?

My job has a winter break for 3 weeks every year. I was prepared to handle that but expecting at least some hours before that. My manager emailed me today saying I probably won't be needed the next few weeks…then it'll be another few weeks of break. So they are casually letting me know I won't be getting any paychecks from them for at least 6 weeks. Cool…
