I really just need to vent. I work for a major cell phone provider in a retail location as an assistant manager. I try to do everything I can for my team, especially keeping them safe. We’re in the Midwest and a snow storm just come through about 5 hours ago. I made it clear to my general manager I would not be driving once it gets dark and he told me he was completely okay with that and I needed to contact my district manager for a store closer. I had to argue with here for 3 hours about why it was important we close for the teams safety and well being. Her response was that our territory manager (who doesn’t even live in the area) “didn’t have the appetite to close the stores” I finally let her know that I have plenty of sick time and I have the right to use that, the store has to close when I decide to leave. She finally agreed and I was able to get the rest of my team out and everyone home safe. It’s just frustrating that the well being of your front line employees means nothing as long as we can squeeze a few more phones or watches out. On top of all of this my store was the only one in my district to close. There keeping the other 5 locations open for who knows how long. I’m so irritated and annoyed but I’m happy my team all got home safe.
