This is the breakdown of a job that was recommended to me.
- Application (5 minutes)
- What this doesn't say is to be qualified for this job I need to spend 2, probably 3 hours crafting a custom resume and cover letter.
- Online Assessment (30-40 minutes)
- They estimate this much time, if it's not timed, it could be longer – like 1 hour
- Initial Phone Interview (30-45 minutes)
- It takes a good hour and a half to two hours to prepare for the interview
- Portfolio Submission (5 minutes)
- Deciding what files to submit, which are the most appropriate may take another 15 – 20 minutes
- Technology Knowledge Interview (30-45 minutes)
- Preparation may take another 2 – 4 hours, depending on the depth of questions I'm assuming they'll ask
- Content Writing Challenge (2-3 hours)
- It could take longer – let's say double at 6
- In-Depth Interview (60-90 minutes)
- another hour or 2 of prep
- Final Interview (45-60 minutes)
- Another hour or 2 of prep
- Job Offer!
Assuming I pass, JUST to get the job, I've already spent like 20 hours. Unless it was a PERFECT job, that I REALLY want and the pay is like $125K… I feel like it's not worth it.
And let's say I don't get it for whatever reason… I can't charge them anything for wasting my time.
