I follow this millennial woman on Tiktok who was formerly a teacher (she has a P.H.D in literary education) who recently got employed at Costco as a membership salesperson.
She made a Tiktok stating that she loved working 7 days full-time the week of Christmas, including Christmas Eve.
During her breaks, she shops at Costco everyday, and immediately shops there after her shift. (There’s nothing wrong with doing this, but she’s almost like, living-and-breathing this company. Who else advocates for work-life balances?)
The woman was even ecstatic that her manager gifted her a Costco-themed backpack as her Christmas gift/bonus(?)
(First of all, shame on Costco for missing the perfect opportunity to hype up Kirkland merch; I know some Costco members love their hoodies in an ironic way!
Second of all, am I the only one who HATES when employers do this? If I get a gift, I rather get something that doesn’t associate a mandatory place where I waste half of my life in order to sustain myself)
I know US education system is horrible to the new generation of teachers, hence more and more of them leaving
Teachers are some of the hardest working and influencing people I know, and they deserve WAY more respect
Though, looking at this woman past work habits, she had poor self-care/time managing skills and seemed to be slacking in maintaining her unit lessons, doing them last minute
I think she’s blindsided by having new relationship energy of her job.
C’mon, it’s COSTCO! It sounds very similar to Amazon or Walmart with just mid benefits
to It’s retail. It’s a big corporation that probably sees her as a tiny ant working in the colony.
What’s your thoughts about this?
I don’t understand how a few bunches in younger generations preach to masses how “instantly rewarding” grind culture is — especially partaking in big-corporate franchises that don’t really advocate for entry-level positions
What’s y’all’s opinions and thoughts about employees who simp too hard for their companies?
(EDIT: I’ve heard positive pay about Costco compared to most retail companies, though, ONE, they rarely hire because of their huge potential new hire pool and their current employees NEVER quit.
I’m not sure about newly built Costcos. Who knows if they hire from scratch or just send their existing employees to a new location.
TWO, you literally work your ass off. Ive heard Reddit Costco worker’s statements about killing their feet and back constantly walking around or standing.
I’m not aware if Costco has done anything about this to ensure their employees physical well-being.)
