I just have to process this. This was about 2 hours ago. I live in Alabama, if that matters.
I left at 3:30pm yesterday, as this is my normal time to clock out. I often work over because I was the only painter and sandblaster they had, so everything that shipped out had to go through me, and there was always too much to do.
I had to take my niece to practice yesterday, so I didn't stay late. Apparently something had to ship out today, and I was supposed to stay late to get it done, when I planned on doing it first thing this morning. They said her practice didn't matter, because “Your job comes first. Hit the clock and go home. I've got no use for you.”
I've been there over a year, I've never had a complaint. Never a warning. I've always gotten my stuff blasted, primed, and painted and out the door on time, despite being the only one there who can do any of it and never having any help. I just… huh. Everybody there was pissed and confused as to why they're firing me, when they know other people have gotten in trouble several times, and they still have their jobs.
All I can think is that my review was coming up and I was due a raise, so they let me go. It's just really weird to me, because they had all this shit they needed done this week, and now there's nobody there to do it. I'm not sure how easy of a time they'll have finding someone to put up with as much shit as I did.
I'm just panicking, I guess. I'm 26. Times are tough. I'm always short on cash as is, and that's with me making 20 bucks an hour at this job. I've never been fired before and I'm not sure what to do while I look for a job. How to make it.
Words of advice or encouragement would be greatly appreciated, friends.
