“If we pay everyone twice as much, will they be twice as productive?”

I was reminded of a little story about a previous boss and figured I'd share. One day during a company meeting, my boss showed us all a video of a formula 1 pit crew setting the world record for the fasted tire change (or something like that) and said we should strive to be like them when changing over machines. I and others on the production team started joking about how much those guys must get paid compared to all of us, to which the boss responded with the post title. Our comments were all in good fun, so nobody pushed the matter. Later, as I was leaving, I saw the boss showing the video to a client who had stopped by for a tour. When he explained to the client that he expected the team to perform like the pit crew, the client said the same thing as all…

The look my boss gave me as I walked by smirking could only be described as “not. a. single. word.”
That was a good day 🙂
