I’ve met various employers who pretend to dangle carrots in front of recently hired employees, only for the employees to find out those carrots don’t really exist.

The rewards are few, the exploitation is massive. I've heard of Managers overhiring Salespeople so that they are constantly feeling underpaid, so they have to stress more about making sales on commission. In reverse scenarios, I've seen organizations under-employ their operations and marketing, to cut costs. This emotionally tortures their current employees who don't have much of a say in the situation. It also doesn't yield the desired results.
