I want to bring this up to my fellow Canadians; that the discussion of wages is not a fundamental worker's right and is not brought up at all within the National Labour Code. This means it is up to the individual provinces to mandate whether or not it is a protected right.
In Ontario Wage Discussion IS a protected worker's right. However I now know that in Newfoundland, it is not –therefore here in this province, if it is against company policy, you can be fired for it.
So to my fellow Canadians: know your provincial labour act and regulations and know how to protect yourself.
