Been at my job for about two years now. It's not a bad place really. I work in healthcare and the place sees high turnover as in a big city there's a lot of opportunity and employers have to be competitive.
Last year I realized I was getting paid about 20 thousand under market, and I've been also doing the job duties of a technical manager since there was nobody else.
I asked for a market adjustment and I also asked for a promotion and laid out pretty well on how valuable I am to the company. They agreed but only gave me a small raise and to “revisit the promotion next year”
This left a bad taste in my mouth so I shot out my resume and within a day I had an interview with a very well respected employer.
He told me in the interview he couldn't find anyone to fill his vacancies as there is such a shortage (which I knew) and he spent the entire interview selling me the position.
Not only will I make MORE than what I asked from my current employer but I also get insane PTO (56 days a year) a Union/pension/OT is 3x hourly rate. And free good health insurance.
Fast forward I resign from my current position and they ask me if I'll stay if they give me the promotion and a little higher raise. I told them no, and they give me a sob story about how if I leave it will be a huge blow to the company and it'll take them a year to fill my role.
Know your worth everyone, don't let these corporations fuck around.
