Started working as a Dietary Aide and it is a job that is forgotten in the health field. Everything has been about nurses and PSW's. The DA are overworked, not paid enough and is the last for any form of extra money going into hiring more to lessen the work load or keep the ones they have. People have walked out midway during training because it is too much. I am new and have been in training and thus far have only worked 2 short shifts in the last week. Both times it took me over an hour of what I was scheduled for to complete the tasks outlined. I asked about compensation for it and was told I will be paid for those 2 hours but will be expected to complete everything in my itinirary within the time or I will not be paid for it as they have had no issues from others being able to do it. The people they are talking about have been working there for atleast over a year. I have heard from some that they come in early to keep up without getting paid and some when new went over the time limit but were not paid for it. They just accept it as a norm. Yes, we are unionized but are always told there is no money. I will stick with it this week but will probably quit after.
