Toxic dysfunctional nonprofits

I’ve been in the nonprofit/“make the world a better place” sphere since I graduated college and there is something uniquely dysfunctional about a workplace that gives you “meaning” instead of a livable salary. We get paid well below market rate but this is suppose to be something we are excited to embrace bc it means the org is “all about the work at all costs”. Also these organizations form a patchwork of services that are not even close to a real safety net but this allows the government to wash its hands of providing services. I wanted to create a space to discuss all the weird shitty dynamics in nonprofits. Nonprofit workers, what’s your experience been like?
