At work by my start time of 8.30am. A colleague has called out sick as the place has worn their health down into oblivion. I have successfully boundary set to safeguard myself from the same fate.
Consequently I am given an extra admin task and an extra meeting to do in the same time slot. I cancel the meeting because the meeting I structions were unclear and the room was ready in use. Easier to postpone. Got the admin done, which was for an external visitor and urgent.
Halfway through this process, someone walks through the office and barks at me to get to the meeting. I replied I had to get the admin done and was then verbally abused and told to go to the meeting to tell people it was cancelled, even though that was self evident and I knew other colleagues were there.
The sad part of it all is the person who is paid maybe $200 more a month than me is is someone I used to consider a friend. As recently as Christmas I have babysat her kids, got them gifts, been out for drinks with her and her husband. Gonna pull up the drawbridge now as I don't need to be spoken to like dirt because someone else called in sick. Yes, I will help out but I'm not completely overstretching myself as I have my own work to complete regardless. Pay for the damn cover or let the senior team on the big bucks pick it up instead of marching about trying to look important.
