So I am job hunting and I get a call from a recruiter that sounds very desperate due to contacting me through every sort of contacting information I have… I figured eh I need a job so might as well see what this is about. I give him a call and he started telling me about his client that is looking to hire someone ASAP. He starts telling me about the job and I immediately sense red flags due to some of the screening questions he was asking me. I shit you not asked me, “Do you feel comfortable being in an office setting where everyone vapes?” Like uhh?? What?? I asked him indoors?? And he said yes everyone there vapes indoors. I was trying to give it the benefit of the doubt and said umm okay sure as long as they aren’t smoking it in my face ha ha??
THEN he gets very serious and asks me, “Do you feel comfortable NOT wearing a mask??” and I said “Uh I mean i’m fully vaccinated so I guess?” and he said “Good because the owner doesn’t want people wearing masks like ever in his facility regardless of vaccination status.” Like uuuuhhhhh okkk?? Weird but ok?? Then he starts telling me about his client aka the manager. He said, “Yeah he can be quiet a character. He curses a lot. Like a lot.” then he prefaced that he would not curse at me, that it’s just how he is. How professional. Lol. Then he explains the environment and how it’s just “so laid back” and “not really too strict about what you wear” Which idk but set off huge red flags.
I am too shy to speak up and say this job sounds like shit and hang up so I just kind of went along with it. I stupidly scheduled a job interview for tomorrow. Then he sends me a follow up email and I could not believe what I was reading. The following emailed said on bold letters: “PLEASE DO NOT WEAR A MASK TO THE INTERVIEW.”
Then he starts recommending me to write down questions, which said:
“I always recommend having a list of pre-written questions for the interview:
These questions should be operationally-based (not about pay, benefits, training, etc.).
Good topics would be operational challenges, successful staff members and their traits, etc.”
All I kept thinking was, are y’all really trying to hire people or what??? Cuz this is just… Tragic.
