Last job I was roped into a meeting about employee retention as well as hiring.

This place was drowning for help. Literally in full on panic mode as employees walked out and they offered 14.50 an hour for a job that normally pays 20 an hour. The hiring manager was the first to speak. She stands up in front of the group and says: “Before anyone presents I would like to observe our current efforts. We are on every single job hiring site. We have purchased bill boards in all the citys surrounding ours as well as this one. Flyers are up on every location we own. We have dropped off similar flyers at lots of businesses around the following areas (like literally 75-100 locations.) More over our current program is that anyone who makes a recommendation and the person is hired and works at least 3 months is paid $100 bonus. This place was drowning for help. Literally in full on panic mode as employees walked out and they offered 14.50 an hour for a job that normally pays 20 an hour.

The hiring manager was the first to speak. She stands up in front of the group and says:

“Before anyone presents I would like to observe our current efforts. We are also in the process of implementing $500 sign on bonuses for anyone who lasts a year. I recommend raising pay to 17.50 an hour if we want to see any impact, and 22.50 an hour if we actually want to hire anyone.”

She actually mentioned a herculean effort on her part. Basically this is maybe 1/4th of the things she had implemented and was actively doing.

The first manager gets up to present and just says “Ok so everything I was going to recommend is either in the works or is being done currently.”

This happens down the line aside from one person whos ballsy enough to just get up there and present like “YOLO” despite the entire thing he recommended was already in place.

At the end of the meeting every 'higher up' concluded that it was the fault of the hiring manger/hr for not 'trying harder' screaming at the woman watching her get incredibly upset until she looks at them and says “you know what. I quit. This is clearly your fault.”

Walks straight out of the meeting with maybe 1.5 hours on the clock left to fix this situation. I chimed in and said “I hate breaking it to you guys but she was the one I was dropping this off with today… heres my 2 weeks notice.”

Got up and walked straight out. The entire place erupted in “LAZY MILLENIALS!” type speak as I was leaving.
