Thanks, support, apologies and good news

So I’m the bad guy. Im a senior manager and I don’t/didn’t understand why my staff were lazy, indifferent and didn’t give a shit, while I’m so dedicated and hard working. Turns out we pay shit, our conditions are shit and staff are seeing their value and happy to take their skills elsewhere. This led to some important conversations around why people want to work for us and despite all the MBA conversations about EVP and “family” facing the truth that people want to get paid, and they want to earn enough to live a life worth living. So I’ve used this group. I listen, I observe, I try to understand and adjust our employment practices and recruitment to actually offer something of value to people in exchange for their time and skills.

I don’t have control of enough budget to offer big pay rises, but I’m making sure that all the minimum wage staff have training and certification to leave if they want to. If you can’t have money, at least have options right?

So sorry for being part of the problem, thanks for schooling me and thanks for inspiring me to look at my own situation, and quit a high stress role for a home working with a pay rise role. I even had the balls to say I won’t start work until 10 so I can take my kids to school.

So yeah, stick to your guns, keep your heads up, shun the shysters and when you get a bit of power, use it wisely.

Good luck out there.
