Boss thinks pensions aren’t “really a good idea”

Sitting in the shared office listening to a conversation my director is having with our department assistant. My director said they worked for 25 years for a large company that provided pension, and here is my director’s take: “I don’t think pensions are really a good idea. They’re not worth it. Don’t even worry that we don’t offer them here because listen to this. After 25 years at ______, when I retire my pension will be about $600 a month. That’s like a night out with my family. It’s not much”. While I do agree that 25 years should warrant more than $600/month, why does my director feel that the $0 we are offered is okay?? And why does my director feel the need to have this conversation with our administrative assistant who makes less than $20 an hour and likely won’t have enough savings to ever retire?? I hate…

I hate it here.
