My boss won’t give me a raise for inflation, suggests I earn it instead.

Last week I asked my boss for a pay increase as I cannot afford to pay rent and move into an apartment. For perspective I make only $2k too much to qualify for low income housing. I am very underpaid for my position and have been given tasks outside of my job description since the pandemic began. After being denied applications for apartments due to “low income” I asked my boss for a raise of about $3 as I haven’t received a raise since I was hired in 2019. I cited the raise of inflation, the cost of living has increased and that I haven’t received any bonuses from client work. I think I’m just going to find another job. Thoughts?
