- Asked to pass an exam before beginning job, after formal offer given and accepted. This is standard practice when working with kids in my state. I'm a teacher.
- Go into the doctor's office and disclose that I have depression and anxiety, managed with medication. I mean, it asks for medical conditions and how they're managed, right?
- Told by practitioner that per employer request, I needed a letter from my psychiatrist clearing me to work with children. Told that passing the medical exam was contingent upon this letter.
- Is this practice discriminatory? Is it legal? I mean, I have never been asked to do this before. Not even when I was starting as a classroom teacher for a public school. I have been on meds for depression and anxiety for twenty years.
- Even if it is, it still makes me feel like shit. Why would I want to trust my employer with anything? Not even sure I want to take this position. Even though I should because I'm broke af.
