Hey, HR person here. Here are the free resources my company uses to calculate pay range. Advocate for the pay you deserve. If any other HR people were trained differently, please share.
Use the links below to find the appropriate pay ranges for your job title. I wish it included more roles but these are the only resources I have available.
Example: You find out the starting salary for your role is $50,000 based on those links.
Take the salary amount and multiple it by the cost of living percentage listed on the Robert Half pdf. Say you live in San Francisco. It’s listed as +41%. Your salary should be $50,000 x 1.41 = $70,500
For every year of outside experience, multiply that adjusted salary by 3%. For every 2 years of internal experience, add 3%. If you have 2 years of outside experience, do $70,500 x 1.06 = $74,730. That should be your starting salary if you get an offer from another company. If you have 2 years of external experience and 1 year internal, it should be $70,500 x 1.075 = 75,787.5. That should be your pay at your current company.
